Terracotta Boutique Shopify Channel

Shopify Sales Channel - “Facebook Shop (discontinued)”

Fixing a Shopify Sales Channel for Rugby fashion retailer

Background

Diane has been running a boutique clothes shop in the centre of Rugby town for nearly 30 years. In that time the shop has had a number of different websites, with its latest one being built on the Shopify platform. It’s a solid site that works well for the shop.

One of the key features they used was a Shopify Sales Channel that allowed them to post to Facebook and Instagram and tag their products, allowing their followers to click through and easily purchase those items from their Shopify store.

In November 2021 Terracotta lost the ability to tag their products when posting to Facebook or Instagram, so they asked me to have a look and see what could be done.

Facebook Shop Shopify Sales Channel

There were a number of issues, but the main one was that the original Shopify Sales Channel called “Facebook Shop” had been discontinued earlier in 2021, and replaced with something slightly different.

I had to set up a new Facebook Shop within their Facebook account and then install and configure the new Facebook Sales Channel within their Shopify account. We could then sync a catalogue of products from Shopify to their Facebook Shop.

Once complete this allowed Terracotta to tag their products on Facebook posts, just as they had before, with only a couple of small changes to how the end user interacted with the Facebook post itself.

Instagram Shopping

Restoring the Instagram product tagging functionality was a slightly different process. The discontinuation of the Facebook Shop Sales Channel was also responsible for the feature ceasing to work on Instagram, but getting it to function using the new Facebook Sales Channel needed a bit more work inside Terracotta’s Facebook and Instagram profiles.

I configured their Facebook and Instagram profiles to run inside Facebook’s Business Suite, fixed some inconsistencies on their Instagram profile, and then set up their Instagram Shopping profile to use the same catalogue of products as their Facebook page.

Summary

Terracotta now once again has the ability to tag their products on both Facebook and Instagram, and Facebook Business Suite allows them to post and manage both platforms in one place, and drive sales through social media.
